Gotta love the IT conference scene

If you’re wondering why the Hell I haven’t responded to your e-mail or phone call this week, well, no, it’s not because I hate you, it’s because I’ve been conferencing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Today was the first day (in addition to a brief stint Monday afternoon) in the office since last week. It was good to get back to my desk and be greeted with a dozen voicemails and a few hundred e-mails. Why didn’t I check my e-mail from home or at the conferences? The answer to that question is simple, I don’t have access to it (yes, I know it’s 2006).

Monday was HP’s Software Forum which was more interesting than I expected it to be. I know, I know, HP is a hardware vendor but it’s software business looks like it’s taking off in a big way. Besides, HP is a cool company that contributes to worthwhile causes.

Tuesday and Wednesday was the Australian Wireless Summit at Darling Harbour. This was also a pleasant surprise and many large enterprise end-users were happy to speak about their adventures with Wi-Fi. It was also good to catch up with a few people in the industry.

So the 2006 conference year has started in a big way. Before I know it I’ll be jetting around the country doing all sorts of events. I just hope they are as rewarding as the first few…
