What do you get when you combine AMD processors, Linux, and a whole lot of creativity? Computer-generated movies, of course!
Dreamworks is taking part in a global marketing campaign with AMD to show off the technology behind its blockbuster animation movies like Shrek and Madagascar. Apparently Dreamworks has migrated its infrastructure to AMD’s Opteron architecture used for creating and rendering digital animation. The interesting thing about Dreamworks is that the company is a Linux shop on the server and desktop. It developed a proprietary application for digital effects on Linux.
Last week a few journos were invited to Taronga Zoo for a sneak peak into how Dreamworks’ movies are made. Dreamworks is using Red Hat Linux with the Gnome desktop to create the characters we all see in the movies. Its preferred technology partner is HP so good thing HP started offering AMD-based systems, eh!
Well, what have we here. It’s the team at Howorth Communications (AMD’s PR agency) digital lifestyle group (DLG).
From LtoR we have the lovely Julie, David, Leila and Kate. The DLG is now doing more integrated marketing services and is therefore appreciating the fact that PR isn’t the be-all-and-end-all so well done guys. That photo is a shocker though, perhaps you could send in something better?
I asked if Dreamworks was planning to open an office in Sydney. The answer was along the lines of “that’s in the hands of the gods”.

Hey! I used to work with that guy…
