Back to good old Netscape

Becoming more than fed up with the unstable Firefox on my Windows PC at work, I installed the original Netscape browser.

Does anyone not think that Firefox sucks on Windows? Mind you, IE is also quite unstable. If I open more than 10 tabs and Firefox will want to use 150MB of memory effectively bringing my computer to it’s knees.

So far so good with Netscape. It imported all Firefox shortcuts and bookmarks. The two browsers share a lot of common code, but I hope the two things I really care about – reliability and reliability – are way better in Netscape.

  1. Firefox sucks on windows? I thought it sucked on Linux!

Opera sucks less. I installed it on a windows machine that I am forced to use, a few days ago. Doesn’t leak memory on the timescale of a few hours of sitting idling at one of the weatherzone loops now.

  2. Firefox doesn’t really grab me (I prefer Galeon, really), but I can’t imagine any modern browser being so bad that it would drive me back to Netscape (I’m guessing you mean version 4, since later versions were just rebadged Mozillas or Firefoxes).

Do today’s all-singing and dancing websites even render under Netscape anymore?

Since you’re using Windows, have you tried K-meleon?

  3. I actually thought you would have been scolded and run down because of the windows OS comment, since you haven’t I can only assume the FOSS community has grown up some recently
